The CEMEA leisure centre: nature holidays for all children!

Since the summer of 2015, we have been hosting the CEMEA Pays de Loire Leisure Centre. Every summer, in a corner of the donkey meadow, a proper nature camp is set up for mini-camps and summer camps – the children come to spend their holidays right in the middle of the garden!

On site, young people shape their holidays according to their own wishes and needs, with trained activity leaders who champion the principles of popular education and progressive education.

On the programme: treehouses, observing life at the pond, cooking with vegetables from the garden, organising shows, bike rides to post letters written to families, exploring the beach, astronomy evenings – and anything else we can come up with when we’re free to choose.

Your questions about our Farm Camping and the CEMEA leisure centre

What is the capacity of the campsite at Le Jardin de la Bardonnière?

Farm Camping offers 6 shaded pitches for tents and caravans, surrounded by hedgerows in the heart of the market garden. Prices: €5 per night per pitch, €5 per night per adult, €4 per night per child, €3 per night for electricity. The site is open from June to the end of September.

What does the ‘Accueil Paysan’ label at your campsite entail?

The ‘Accueil Paysan’ label guarantees an authentic, supportive and eco-friendly welcome. When you stay at Le Jardin de la Bardonnière, which holds the ‘Accueil Paysan’ label, you’ll share in the daily life of the organic farm: a farmers’ market on Wednesday evenings, organic vegetables sold on site and cultural events throughout the summer. Louise is co-chair of the Vendée branch of Accueil Paysan.

When is the Farm Camping site open?

The campsite is open from June to the end of September inclusive, for tents and caravans. The site is 30 minutes from the coast, 15 minutes from Challans and Machecoul, set amongst woodland and marshland. Booking is recommended: by email at lejardindelabardonniere@gmail.com or by telephone/text message on 06 49 22 67 28.

What facilities are available in the campsite’s toilet block?

The shared toilet block provides 2 showers with washbasins, 2 dry toilets, 2 sinks for washing up, a communal fridge and a gas hob. The dry toilets (wood shavings) are easy to use and are cleaned regularly.

How do I book a pitch at Le Jardin de la Bardonnière?

Bookings can be made directly with Louise by text message or by calling 06 49 22 67 28, or by email to lejardindelabardonniere@gmail.com. The campsite (6 pitches) is open from June to the end of September; pets are allowed subject to certain conditions (please contact Louise before booking).

What are the CEMEA?

The CÉMÉA (Training Centres for Active Education Methods) is a movement of people committed to practices centred on the values and principles of the New Education, Popular Education and active education methods, with the aim of transforming communities and institutions through individual action. It is an association of active and creative grassroots campaigners. They reaffirm that they inevitably have an impact on the evolution of society and that they wish to participate in its transformation through their proposals for education, for children and young people.

What is progressive education?

Progressive Education is an international educational movement that places the child at the centre of their learning, enabling them to take an active role in their own education. Learning takes place through experience, experimentation and engagement with the real world, rather than through passivity.

When is the leisure centre open?
